Project Cost Estimates
Real, dated, individually-sourced cost figures for major NYC-area projects where a single official total either isn't fully public or has visibly shifted over time — JFK Airport, Penn Station, the Gateway Program, and Interborough Express.
This is not a prediction.
This page does no math: every figure below comes directly from a real, dated, cited source, shown side by side rather than merged or averaged into one number. Where sources disagree or a figure has changed over time, that's shown plainly. It's a research aggregator of numbers already published elsewhere — distinct from EstimAId, our planned algorithmic estimator, which won't launch until it has a real actuals dataset behind it.
Each figure is checked against multiple independent sources; one drawn only from a secondary recap rather than the original filing or press release is marked as such.
JFK Airport Redevelopment
JFK Airport Redevelopment (New Terminal One & Terminal 6) — phases, contractors & news →JFK's redevelopment spans multiple developer-led terminal projects plus Port Authority infrastructure spend, and the program's own headline total has changed materially at each major announcement — worth showing as a real timeline rather than one static number.

Penn Station Redevelopment
Penn Station Reconstruction (New York Penn Station Transformation) — phases, contractors & news →Figures vary sharply depending on whether the source means the train-hall/station renovation alone or that plus the surrounding "Penn District" commercial redevelopment once meant to help fund it — and as of mid-2026 the project's final cost is explicitly undetermined pending its pre-development agreement phase.

Gateway Program / Hudson Tunnel Project
Hudson Tunnel Project (Gateway Program) — phases, contractors & news →The Hudson Tunnel Project (Phase One) has an official current figure and confirmed federal grants, but its own cost has grown substantially since 2015, and a large second phase (Penn Station platform/track expansion) remains unfunded and unappropriated — genuinely not-yet-public money.
Original 2015 estimate (two new tunnels + rehab of existing)
Official Budget$8.7 billion
Cited via a later op-ed's historical summary, not independently verified against a 2015 primary document.
2019 revised estimate

Interborough Express (IBX)
Interborough Express (IBX) — phases, contractors & news →Only half of the MTA's own official cost estimate is currently funded in its capital plan, and independent transit analysts project the true cost will run higher once a since-added tunneling scope item is reflected in an official revision.

Funding committed in MTA 2025–2029 Capital Plan
