Where Companies Are Working Right Now
400 electrical job sites filed with DOB in the last 90 days, plotted at their real geocoded locations. Electrical filings are the only current City feed that carries both a contractor name and a mapped job site — DOB NOW Build filings are geocoded but name the architect, and the permit dataset that named the contractor stopped updating in June 2020.
Busiest Electrical Contractors
Electrical work is licensed and filed on its own track, so these firms do not appear in the permit counts above no matter how much they build. Ranked by filings so far this year. Individual licensed electricians file under their own name here, which is genuine rather than a data error.

Firm names appear exactly as DOB stores them, including source truncation like "Elec'l Con" — expanding those would mean inventing a legal name the City does not publish.

General Contractors, All Trades
Ranked by the number of construction permits pulled citywide — the clearest activity signal in public DOB records.
This ranks the businesses named as permittee on NYC Department of Buildings permits — the entity actually pulling the permit to do the work — by permit volume. It is not a revenue, quality, or safety ranking: NYC's public data doesn't include contractor revenue or safety ratings, so none is shown here. There's no dedicated "General Contractors" trade filter above: unlike plumbing or electrical, general contracting has no distinguishing keyword in a company's registered name, so this citywide ranking — spanning every trade — is the honest stand-in for a GC-specific list. For contractors that specialize and say so in their own registered name, see Browse by Trade above. This ranking is refreshed nightly rather than re-scanned on every visit, since it's a full citywide scan of hundreds of businesses' permit counts.

Contractors on NYC's Megaprojects & Tallest Towers
Hand-tracked, not ranked by permits: the general contractors, construction managers and joint-venture partners named in sourced reporting on NYC's landmark infrastructure projects and tallest towers — much of it agency work that never appears in DOB permit data. Each firm links to every project it's on.
Frequently Asked
- Who is the busiest general contractor in NYC?
- Structure Tone Inc, with 23,478 DOB permits on file citywide — ranked by permit volume, the only company-level activity metric NYC's public data supports (not revenue, headcount, or safety rating).
- How are NYC construction companies ranked on this page?
- By the number of construction permits pulled citywide, as the permittee named on NYC Department of Buildings permits — a real, live-queried activity signal, not a self-reported or paid ranking.
- What does M/WBE certified mean for a NYC construction company?
- A business certified minority-owned (MBE) or women-owned (WBE) by the NYC Department of Small Business Services — a different, self-reported registry from the DOB permit-volume rankings on this page. See Certified M/WBE Businesses for the full list.
