Address/job-number matches use DOB's own spelling of street names — ordinal suffixes (1st/2nd/3rd) are stripped and common abbreviations (Ave, St, Rd, Blvd, Pl, Dr, Ln, Pkwy, and more) are expanded automatically, since DOB always spells street types out in full. Still not exhaustive for unusual abbreviations — try the full street name if a search comes back empty. Use the borough filter for common street names (Broadway, numbered streets) that repeat across boroughs. A 6-9 digit number is treated as a DOB job number and looked up directly. The Companies match is a live search directly against DOB Permit Issuance's contractor field — broader than the citywide top-100 list on Companies, so a real but lower-volume specialist will still turn up here. Topic results (Filings by Description, Contract & Bidding Opportunities, Job Postings) are a live substring match against each dataset's own free-text field, not topic classification — it runs both ways: real work described without your exact word won't match (e.g. "PV SYSTEM" without the word "solar"), and an unrelated match can slip in if your word appears inside a longer one (searching "solar" also matches a vendor literally named "SolarWinds," a software company). Read each result before treating it as on-topic.
